Travel Tips – Japan

Currency

Bring Cash. Credit cards can be used around significant cities but not so much in the countryside.
Your local bank can accommodate exchange requests (you might have to let them know in advance depending on the amount)
It is best to avoid Japanese banks to convert using brand new Dollar bills if you need extra to be exchanged.
Airport
Aside from significant airports, expect to see them in major train stations and some shopping centers scattered around the city. The shop with the most branches around Tokyo is the World Currency Shop, under Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Daikokuya, and Travelex. While this makes exchanging currency easy, their commission can be steep.
